How did Victorian artists represent feeling and how were these feelings aestheticised? What might be the limits of an historicist approach for understanding the emotions at play in nineteenth-century aesthetic response? What are the processes and responsibilities involved in curating feeling for a contemporary audience?
The panellists will consider these questions from a range of perspectives, drawing on recent and forthcoming exhibitions and displays.
Exhibitions and displays discussed include:
- 'Victorian Sentimentality' at Tate Britain
- 'Sculpture Victorious' at Tate Britain
- The forthcoming exhibition on 'The Fallen Woman' at the Foundling Museum
This is a free event and is open to the public. Please book your place in advance.
